Pressure and Duct Design

Throw of registers, grilles and diffusers is assumed, for design purposes, to be uniformly centred about the outlet. The fact that it may not be so, may be of little or no importance, but without due attention being paid to the approach condition behind the outlet, the pattern is most likely to be asymmetrical, due to the approach angle of the supply air.

Where it is important that symmetrical diffusion patterns be established, then it is essential for branch take-offs to outlets to be fitted with curved splitters or guide vanes. If space or other considerations preclude this, then straight blade equalizing grids may be used, but with somewhat less effect. A single bladed scoop type of deflector at the outlet is not desirable.
